Now, that's a lot of candles!
City of Bryan marks 135th anniversary with free party

1871 was no ordinary year:

*	Charles Darwin wrote in The Descent of Man that humans evolved
from animals.
*	The Great Chicago Fire left nearly 100,000 people homeless.
*	Aviation pioneer Orville Wright was born.
*	The Texas legislature established the Agricultural & Mechanical
College of Texas.
*	And Bryan, Texas, was officially incorporated as a city.

To mark its 135th anniversary, the City of Bryan will host a party for
the community on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2 p.m.-5 p.m. at Sue Haswell
Memorial Park.

Children can enjoy bouncers, games and rock climbing, while all ages can
test their skills in a horseshoe tournament; enter drawings for birthday
presents; sample the food, drinks and birthday cake; then take in the
sounds of The Big Otis Show Band. Big Otis will sing a special rendition
of Happy Birthday at 3 p.m. and then launch into his signature tunes
that range from rhythm and blues to Motown favorites.

All 135th anniversary events, including the Big Otis concert, are free.
