Bryan City Council Approves a 5% Rate Reduction

At its Nov. 14 meeting, following the recommendation of the Bryan Texas
Utilities (BTU) Board of Directors, the Bryan City Council voted
unanimously to lower the rate BTU charges its customers. The new rate is
an approximately five percent rate reduction for all BTU customers.

Under the new rates, the average residential user of 1,000 kilowatt
hours would see his or her monthly bill drop from $93.15 to $88.35.

BTU General Manager Dan Wilkerson is enthusiastic about the lower rates.
"BTU is constantly striving to maintain competitive electric rates," he
said. "Growth in the Brazos valley over the last several years has
allowed BTU to capture operating efficiencies on a cost per customer
basis. Since BTU is a municipal utility, we are able to return the costs
savings back to our customers through lower rates."

Starting in December, BTU customers will be able to see these savings
reflected on their bills. BTU's last base rate adjustment was in 2002,
when average rates were reduced by 11%.
