Bryan Police Department Awarded Accreditation

Following an extensive five-phase accreditation process that took more
than two years to complete, the Bryan Police Department became fully
accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement
Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) on November 18, 2006. The CALEA commissioners who
reviewed the Bryan Police Department's report were: Dr. John Glover,
Vice President of Corporate Security at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company
(Retired), Davie, Florida; Mr. Richard Holden, Traffic Advisor to the
Governor - State of North Carolina, Raleigh, North Carolina; Mr. James
Robey, Howard County Executive, Ellicott City, Maryland; and Mr. J.
Grayson Robinson, Sheriff of Arapahoe County, Centennial, Colorado.

Throughout the accreditation process Bryan Police Department officials
revised and improved systems and operations to comply with 446 exacting
standards set and approved by CALEA. A public hearing was held in August
2006 at which the accreditation assessment team heard testimony from
members of the City of Bryan community. The Bryan Police Department
protects and serves the City of Bryan community by providing
professional law enforcement services, promoting progressive community
policing strategies, and maintaining a commitment to education. Bryan
Police Department employs more than 165 full-time personnel, 122 of whom
are uniformed officers.

CALEA accreditation is a distinction shared by only 593 law enforcement
agencies in the world. Bryan Police Department is the 24th agency in
Texas to receive this prestigious award. "The accreditation process for
law enforcement agencies is an excellent method to comprehensively and
objectively assess an organization to assure high quality of service to
its citizens. It's been my pleasure to have assisted the Bryan Police
Department in this pursuit of excellence," said Michael L. Strope, Chief
of Police.

During the ceremony, Chief Michael L. Strope was also presented with the
James V. Cotter award. This prestigious award is only granted to Chiefs
of Police who have successfully led three or more law enforcement
agencies through the accreditation process. Chief Strope is the fourth
recipient internationally to receive the award.
