A better way than one-way
Safer, simpler traffic plan for Beck Street construction starts Monday
After a week of sometimes difficult, one-way traffic along an
under-construction stretch of Beck Street, the City of Bryan has decided
to implement a safer, more-intuitive traffic plan for residents.
Beginning Monday, Beck Street will be completely closed from Palasota
Drive to just past Hickory Street. Signs and barricades will detour
traffic around the areas of construction, but will allow homeowners to
access their driveways whenever possible.
During periods when concrete is being poured and allowed to cure in
front of homes, residents will have to park along side streets. And once
work is completed in one area, the road closure will shift along Beck
Street in two-block sections.
The change in construction-related traffic patterns was made after many
drivers chose to ignore the one-way, single-lane flow of traffic, almost
causing numerous collisions. The complete road closure is designed to
eliminate driver confusion while moving traffic around construction
areas in the most efficient way possible.
About the Beck Street Extension Project
The Beck Street Extension Project
<http://ww3.bryantx.gov/departments/?name=beck_street> extends Beck
westward, all the way to Harvey Mitchell Parkway (FM 2818), providing
drivers and pedestrians additional options in the area of Jane Long
Middle School and the Brazos County Industrial Park.
The $8 million project also extends Silkwood Drive and Suncrest Street
to form an intersection with the new section of Beck.
