Final public workshop to focus on changes to FM 1179
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, 6 p.m., a public workshop on the future of
Briarcrest Drive/Villa Maria Road (FM 1179) will be held at Bryan High
School.
The workshop is a final chance for citizens to voice opinions about the
Texas Department of Transportation's plans to change this corridor to
alleviate traffic congestion and safety concerns. Those who live or work
near this corridor, especially from Earl Rudder Freeway (SH-6) to Kent
Street, are encouraged to attend.
About Briarcrest Drive/Villa Maria Road (FM 1179)
This Central Business Corridor, as the city calls it, is Bryan's primary
east-west thoroughfare, supporting a growing number of retail and
commercial businesses. FM 1179 is under the maintenance and control of
TxDOT.
What TxDOT proposes
To ease traffic congestion along this busy corridor, TxDOT plans to
phase-in changes. The first phase would extend from Earl Rudder Freeway
to Kent Street with the addition of turn lanes and raised medians.
