Sanitary sewer line evaluation to change location
On Thursday, March 1, the City of Bryan resumes efforts to reduce the
amount of inflow and infiltration
<http://ww3.bryantx.gov/departments/?name=still_burton> in its sanitary
sewer system.
For up to three weeks, city crews will walk nearly 38,000 linear feet of
sanitary sewer lines in an area known as Basin 15 to detect spots where
storm water is leaking into the system. Crews will check manholes for
proper installation, as well as conduct smoke testing to identify
additional sanitary sewer line defects that may exist. During the work,
residents may see white smoke seeping from the ground. The smoke is
harmless, but does indicate where repairs need to occur.
Basin 15 is roughly bordered by Esther Boulevard, Carter Creek Parkway,
East 29th Street and Briarcrest Drive.
What's Inflow and infiltration?
Also known as I&I, it describes rainwater and groundwater that enters
the wastewater system. This happens through defects such as cracked
lines, aged joints, missing manhole lids, illegal storm water
connections and open cleanouts.
