East 29th Street Widening Project to begin Feb. 5

A year-long project that will widen a portion of East 29th Street and
provide additional features to move a higher volume of traffic in a
safer manner is set to begin Monday, Feb. 5.

The East 29th Street Widening Project is a $2.3 million effort enhancing
29th from Villa Maria Road to Garden Lane. The work will be performed in
three phases by Brazos Valley Services:

Phase I
(February 2006 - August 2006)

*	Barricade north lanes of 29th Street between Villa Maria Road
and Garden Lane
*	Install water, storm sewer and sanitary sewer lines
*	Install temporary signal light at Villa Maria Road
*	Reconstruct the roadway

Phase II
(August 2006 - January 2007)

*	Switch: Barricade south lanes of 29th Street between Villa
Maria Road and Garden Lane
*	Install water line
*	Reconstruct roadway
*	Install six-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of 29th

Phase III
(January 2007 - March 2007)

*	Seal-coat and asphalt overlay 29th Street all the way to Texas
Avenue, near downtown
*	Install permanent signals at Villa Maria Road and Joseph Drive

Other construction notes
When completed, the Villa Maria Road/East 29th Street intersection will
feature improved signal lights and a right-turn lane from westbound
Villa Maria to northbound 29th. And thanks to additional turn lanes,
deceleration lanes and a new signal light at Joseph Drive, drivers will
enjoy easier and safer access into and out of Blinn College via 29th.

Skrivanek Drive will receive a cul-de-sac at 29th Street, reducing the
amount of through-traffic entering the neighborhood.

Access to Blinn College
During construction, access into and out of Blinn College via East 29th
Street may be limited. Drivers are encouraged to use the Villa Maria
Road and East 25th Street entrances and exits whenever possible.

Speed limit change
Throughout the project, the speed limit in construction areas will be
reduced to 25 mph.
