Informational meetings scheduled March 13, 27
The Bryan Police Department
<http://www.bryantx.gov/departments/?name=police> soon will provide two
opportunities to explain how one becomes a reserve officer.
The meetings will be held at the Bryan Police Department March 13 and
March 27, both at 7 p.m.
About BPD's Reserve Unit
Many of Bryan's reserve officers have other careers, yet they
unselfishly give their time and efforts to serve as police officers for
the city.
Those in the Reserve Unit are licensed, non-compensated peace officers
who dedicate their personal time to assist the department in any
capacity designated by the administration. It may be law enforcement
duties, responding to emergencies or even keeping peace during public
special events.
Two lieutenants, two sergeants and 11 officers currently staff the
Reserve Unit and they meet the same departmental and state requirements
as their compensated counterparts.
In 2006, this special unit:
* Organized and provided police services for the community's
annual holiday parade
* Staffed the Neighborhood Nuisance Program
* Assisted operations of the Directed Deployment Team
* Conducted weekend foot patrol in Downtown Bryan
* Logged more than 3,300 hours of service
