Bryan residents invited to comment on community needs

The City of Bryan Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) will
hold three public hearings and a public meeting, beginning at 6 p.m.
Thursday, March 26, at the City of Bryan Council Chambers, 300 South
Texas Ave.

The hearings are being held to solicit public input on community needs
and fair housing issues regarding the City's 2009 programs utilizing
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment
Partnerships Program funds (HOME). Residents also will be asked for
feedback on an amendment to the 2008 Consolidated Action Plan for the
additional allocation of CDBG American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
funds. The CDBG and HOME funds are eligible to cities with populations
over 50,000 and assist the cities in providing funds for programs that
benefit primarily low- to moderate-income citizens.

The Bryan CDAC and staff will provide information to Bryan citizens
regarding what types of activities and projects are eligible for
funding, a history of activities and projects and future plans for
eligible activities. The CDAC members, who host public meetings to
provide a forum to voice community needs, want public comments on
neighborhood issues which are eligible for funding through these grants,
such as housing, code enforcement, infrastructure and access to public
service programs. City staff will also be available from the Community
Development Services Department to answer questions after the public
hearings and public meeting.

The City of Bryan provides several housing programs designed to preserve
and increase the housing stock by offering eligible citizens homeowner
occupied rehabilitation/reconstruction and homebuyers assistance. The
City of Bryan also works with local housing developers through these
grants. In addition, the City funds eligible nonprofits that provide
health and human services directly to clients through a joint process
with the City of College Station on an annual basis, and are the second
largest source of funds for eligible agencies in the area.
