Bryan to make signal changes at WJB and Villa Maria intersection

The City of Bryan will begin making a major traffic signal operations change at the intersection of W.J. Bryan Parkway (FM 158) and Villa Maria Road beginning at 11 p.m. this evening, December 23. City crews will be on-site making signal display and traffic sign adjustments at the intersection, as well as changing the signal timing. New pavement markings on the westbound approach of W.J. Bryan Parkway will also be installed early Friday morning to accommodate the operational change. The remaining pavement markings will be completed in the coming days by contractors working for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

The most noticeable change for motorists will be the westbound approach of W.J. Bryan Parkway. This approach will now only have a single left-turn only lane to turn south on Villa Maria Road. Previously, motorists travelling west to turn left (south) were allowed to turn from both the left turn lane as well as the middle lane. Lane assignments will remain the same on all other approaches to this intersection.

The signal operations will also be changed to allow for simultaneous movements of both east- and westbound traffic on W.J. Bryan Parkway. Previously, each direction moved separately of each other. The left-turn movements on W.J. Bryan Parkway will still have protected “green arrow” displays, but the change will now include permissive left-turns on a “green ball” display.

All work should be completed by Friday morning. These pavement marking and signal operation changes will significantly reduce the delay for all motorists that travel daily through this intersection. The City urges motorists to use caution and be aware of workers and equipment that are present in the roadway, and to obey all traffic control devices during and after the changes are made.

These signal changes coincide with the pavement overlay work that is currently being performed by TxDOT and its contractor.
